SUMMARY:Precision Rifle Course--November 2\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Spartan Firearms Training Group’s long-range precision rifle course is uniquely designed to challenge novice to intermediate shooters. Students seeking the ability to engage targets at greater distances with consistent accuracy and to efficiently manipulate a given weapon system are the ideal customers for this course. Training may include\, but is not limited to\, rifle setup and equipment familiarization (including customization of rifle to fit each individual shooter\, scope leveling and zeroing)\, fundamentals of marksmanship\, basic ballistics\, reading wind\, range estimation (holds and dialing)\, alternate firing positions\, and developing the ability to construct a ballistic shooting solution for your weapon system and ammunition of choice\, at any given range. \nOur instructors are some of the best in the region. Many have direct combat experience within the special operations community\, involving long-range engagements\, the highest level of sniper training that U.S. special operations has to offer\, multiple years of sniper instructor experience\, and experience tested in the setting of long-range competition shooting\, law enforcement\, and police SWAT experience. This unique blend of experience and expertise\, combined with well-maintained facilities\, allows us to offer professional and efficient training while maintaining a comfortable\, relaxed environment. \nThere will be a brief classroom discussion regarding ballistics\, optics\, and reticles. This is followed by customizing your firearm platform\, including leveling the gun and scope to each individual shooter. Then we will take the gun down to the one-hundred-yard range to zero it\, or confirm zero. Lastly\, where the fun begins\, we’ll move to the distance range and engage targets from 200 to 850 yards! \nTime \n8:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. \nCost \n$425.00 (full price); $200 deposit \nCourse Requirements \n\nSuppressors for your rifle are required\nEye and ear protection\nAmmo: 140 rounds (7-twenty round boxes) of the same brand\, bullet type\, and grain for your firearm. If you can get the ammunition from the same lot\, that is preferred but not required.\nBallistic calculator:  There are several available\, but we recommend “applied ballistics” or “4dof” which can be found on the App Store. Please download one of these ahead of time. We will input all the specifications during class.\nYour long-range gun(s) with a scope that has a distance reticle in MOA or Mildot/MRAD (we prefer that you do not have BDC or straight crosshairs as these are challenging as we add distance past 500 yards). Students must know the reticle of their scope and print off the specifications from the manufacturer’s website\, and bring the print-out with them (or let us know ahead of time). Example: https://www.google.com/search?q=vortex+reticle+subtensions&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari#vhid=F7oD8AkrI4w_7M&vssid=l\nPack a lunch or snacks and water\n\n

SUMMARY:Home Defense--December 12\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:The course teaches home defense as a complete household protection system\, not simply as a firearms problem. The main topics are: \n\nUnderstanding the threat: the difference between burglary\, occupied burglary\, and home invasion; what national crime data tell us about when and how these events occur; and why preparation should be based on evidence rather than fear or myths.\nLayered home security: how to deter\, delay\, and detect an intrusion using lighting\, locks\, reinforced doors\, windows\, alarms\, cameras\, and other practical measures that create more time and options.\nHousehold planning: identifying who must be protected\, where family members should go\, how they should communicate\, how to account for children or vulnerable people\, and how to balance emergency access with secure firearm storage.\nDecision-making during an incident: recognizing what is actually happening\, distinguishing facts from assumptions\, accounting for family members\, using distance and barriers\, communicating clearly\, calling 911\, and continuously reassessing changing circumstances.\nScenario-based judgment: working through realistic situations such as an unknown person at the front door and a nighttime disturbance inside the home\, with emphasis on avoiding premature or unnecessary action.\nMaryland legal and ethical principles: when defensive force may be justified\, why unlawful entry does not automatically justify deadly force\, the importance of imminence and reasonableness\, and the principle that force must stop when the threat stops.\nMedical preparedness: recognizing that anyone may be injured during a defensive event\, preparing basic trauma supplies\, and understanding the importance of bleeding-control skills and hands-on training.\nWhat happens afterward: dealing with 911\, responding police officers\, medical care\, scene preservation\, and the confusion and stress that can continue after the immediate threat has ended.\nPersonal action planning: conducting a home-security audit and leaving the course with specific steps to improve household readiness over the next 30 days.\n\nThe central message tying all of these topics together is: \nHome defense is a system. Prevent what you can\, recognize danger early\, create time and options\, protect innocent life\, use force only when necessary\, reassess continuously\, and prepare for what happens next. \nThe course is taught by Francis Duffy. He is a certified firearms instructor who is also a Ranger-qualified Green Beret veteran. He is a member of the Maryland Shall Issue Board of Directors. \n
